HC Deb 13 November 1911 vol 31 c40
Mr. J. P. FARRELL

asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that no adjustment of rent as between landlords and tenants of terms in Ireland under the Local Government (Ireland) Act is possible in the case of weekly tenants whose means are scanty and employment of the most uncertain kind; whether he will consider the advisability of introducing an amending Bill to so alter the existing law in Ireland as to place the onus for the rates of these slum properties upon the collecting landlord; and whether, if a very short amending Bill in this direction is introduced next Session, he will give it facilities for passage through this House?

Mr. BIRRELL

As I have already informed the hon. Member, I am not prepared to recommend any amendment of the Act in the direction indicated by him.
