HC Deb 13 November 1911 vol 31 c13
Mr. ARTHUR HENDERSON

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether his attention has been drawn to that part of the Report of the Departmental Committee on accidents which details important points in the evidence dealing with conditions in foundries; and whether any and, if any, what steps have been taken to remedy those contributory causes of accidents to men employed in such workplaces; and (2) whether he has considered the recommendation of the Departmental Committee on accidents, that matters relating to dangerous conditions in foundries should be discussed at conferences between employers and employed; and whether any such conferences have been summoned by the representatives of the Home Department, and with what results?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. McKenna)

In the passage of the Report to which the question refers the Committee recommend that the points detailed by them should be investigated by the inspectors and discussed at conferences with employers and employed. Investigations by the inspectors are now in progress, and when they are complete the Department will propose that a conference should be held to discuss the subject as suggested by the Committee.
