HC Deb 08 November 1911 vol 30 cc1662-3
Mr. FRANCIS MEEHAN

asked the Chief Secretary whether he will state the number of prosecutions that have emanated during the years 1909 and 1910, respectively, from each of the following police stations in county Leitrim: Kesh-carrigan, Fenagh, Garradice, Mullagarve, Drumdarton, Cloone, Corraterriff, Fornaght, Gorvagh, Fivemileburn, Killarga, Gubalaun, Glenade, Glencar; and will he take steps to have the number of stations in county Leitrim reduced to suit the needs of the county, taking area and population into consideration, as compared with the county Tyrone, which has only five stations more than county Leitrim although twice the area and population?

Mr. BIRRELL

The responsible police authorities do not think that it would be desirable at present to reduce the number of police stations in the county Leitrim. I do not think that any useful purpose would be served by furnishing a Return of the number of prosecutions at each station, as this is by no means the only factor to be taken into consideration in deciding whether a station should be retained or not.
