HC Deb 30 May 1911 vol 26 c895
Mr. BRIDGEMAN

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when he expects to have completed all the land valuations of the United Kingdom; and what proportion of the whole number have already been made?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

It is anticipated that the valuation will be completed within a period of about five years from the passing of the Finance (1909–10) Act, 1910. Approximately 4 per cent. of the valuations have been already made. But the preliminary inquiries extending over all the properties in the United Kingdom have occupied up to the present a considerable proportion of the time of the valuers.

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the Lord Advocate said it would be completed next year?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

I should like to verify that quotation. I am very doubtful whether the Lord Advocate made such a statement. I have repeatedly stated in this House and outside that it would take five years.
