HC Deb 29 May 1911 vol 26 c682
Mr. NOEL BUXTON

asked what steps are being taken to secure the release of the English lady imprisoned in April at Warsaw?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

The Russian authorities have been urged, through His Majesty's Ambassador at St. Petersburg, to hasten matters; and an application has again been made for His Majesty's Consul to be granted permission to visit Miss Malecka. If she is proved to be a British subject, the Consul will be given permission to visit her officially. He will be allowed to visit her privately if she is proved to be a Russian subject.

Mr. NOEL BUXTON

Is it accepted by the Russian authorities that the passport granted by the Foreign Office to this lady constitutes a recognition of British citizenship?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

No, Sir; I do not think so.
