HC Deb 29 May 1911 vol 26 c701
Mr. GEORGE GREENWOOD

asked whether since the passing of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1910, there has come into existence a new branch of the traffic in old and worn-out horses between Dublin and Liverpool, and that these horses are transhipped at the latter port for Hamburg; whether the Board of Agriculture has appointed an adequate number of veterinary inspectors for the purpose of conducting examinations under the Act aforesaid at the port of Liverpool; and how many of such inspectors have been so appointed?

Sir E. STRACHEY

I should be obliged if the hon. Member would supply me with any information he may have received as to the trade to which he refers. Its existence was previously known to the Board. Adequate provision has been made for the examination of horses exported from Liverpool. Three veterinary inspectors are stationed at that port.

Mr. GEORGE GREENWOOD

Can the hon. Gentleman tell me how many veterinary inspectors appointed by the Board are now at Liverpool?

Sir E. STRACHEY

Three inspectors.
