HC Deb 25 May 1911 vol 26 cc422-3
Mr. BRADY

ased whether any estimates have been invited from or orders placed with any Irish firm or firms for the supply to the new College of Science in Dublin of laboratory instruments, apparatus, and chemicals?

Mr. BRADY

also asked whether any estimates have been invited from or orders placed with any English or Scotch firms for the supply to the new College of Science in Dublin of laboratory instruments, apparatus, and chemicals?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Department of Agriculture have not yet invited estimates from Irish or any other firms for the supplies referred to in these two questions. An order for electrical works for experimental purposes has been placed with a London firm who are carrying out the electric lighting of the new college.

Mr. BRADY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there are several firms in Dublin of the highest standing prepared to supply these instruments to the new school?

Mr. BIRRELL

I have very little doubt there are firms in Dublin capable of supplying electrical apparatus to any public body.

Mr. BRADY

Will the right hon. Gentleman undertake that estimates are invited from those firms?

Mr. BIRRELL

Certainly. We have not yet invited estimates at all. Our invitation will be general.

Mr. BRADY

When the invitation becomes general will Dublin be included?

Mr. BIRRELL

Certainly.
