HC Deb 25 May 1911 vol 26 cc442-3
Sir REGINALD POLE-CAREW

asked how many cavalry regiments there are in the British Army that, during the last thirty years, have had less foreign service than the 7th Hussars?

Colonel SEELY

The number is eighteen.

Sir R. POLE-CAREW

If the number is eighteen, how can altering the roster cause any injustice to these regiments?

Colonel SEELY

Of course it would cause hardship, because there are several regiments, including the Carabineers, the 7th Dragoon Guards, and the 9th, 12th, and 17th Lancers, who have had a longer period of foreign service than the 7th Hussars, Consequently an alteration of the roster would cause hardship.

Sir R. POLE-CAREW

What about the Hussars then?
