HC Deb 24 May 1911 vol 26 c246
Mr. HARRY HOPE

asked if those agricultural workmen in Scotland who at present receive six weeks' full wages if laid off work by sickness, without contributing anything, will be compelled to come under the National Insurance Bill, or will they have the option to remain as they are at present?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

Agricultural labourers will be compulsorily insured. I may point out that the new benefits to which they will acquire a right are likely to exceed considerably the value of the contributions for which they will become liable.
