HC Deb 23 May 1911 vol 26 c145
Mr. C. BATHURST

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture whether it is proposed, as recommended by the Departmental Committee on Swine Fever, to accelerate the extirpation of this disease by compelling the slaughter, with compensation, of all swine who have been exposed to contagion; and whether it is proposed to extend the validity of licences for movement beyond the period for which they are now available?

Mr. C. BATHURST

also asked whether, in view of the interference with the pig-breeding industry which has resulted from the past policy of the Board in reference to the size of infected swine-fever areas and the opinion definitely expressed in paragraph 57 of the recently-issued Report of the Departmental Committee that the size of the areas should be kept as small as possible, the Board propose to alter their administrative policy in this respect?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Sir E. Strachey)

Full consideration will be given to the Report and recommendations made by the Committee.
