HC Deb 23 May 1911 vol 26 cc149-50
Mr. ADAMSON

asked the Lord Advocate whether, in the new Sheriff Court Bill, he is prepared to introduce a clause to prevent employers, during a strike or a lock-out at a colliery, ejecting their employés from dwelling-houses let by the employers to the employés?

The LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. Ure)

The answer to the hon. Member's question is in the negative. As he is probably aware, the question whether the Sheriff Courts Act of 1907 has altered the position in which tenants were placed by the Act of 1838 is at present under consideration in an action in the Court of Session. And until judgment has been given I am not in a position to say whether any legislation in the matter referred to in the question is necessary.

Mr. WATT

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether an Amendment to this effect was moved to the House Letting Bill and rejected?

Mr. URE

No, Sir. It was upon a different question.
