HC Deb 23 May 1911 vol 26 c150
MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

asked whether the right hon. Gentleman will recommend that justices of the peace in Scotland should be held for a term of years only, but subject to reappointment, and that residence outside of the district for more than one year should cause the appointment to lapse?

Mr. URE

I am informed that the Lord Chancellor will consider, when the system of Committees has got to work, whether it is desirable to appoint justices of the peace for a term of years only. The removal of justices from the Commission when they have ceased to reside within the county is recommended by the Royal Commission, and this will be specially brought to the attention of the Advisory Committees when their snore pressing duties are over.
