HC Deb 10 May 1911 vol 25 c1206
Mr. TYSON WILSON

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India if he is aware that the Vulcan Foundry Company, Limited, of Newton-le-Willows, who are contractors for the supply of locomotives to the Indian State Railways, are paying the joiners in their employ 7s. 9d. per week less than the standard rate of wages paid in the district; and whether he will take steps to either remove this firm from the list of contractors for this kind of work, or compel them to observe the Fair-Wages Clause?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Montagu)

An investigation will be made into the allegation made in the question, and I will communicate with my hon. Friend when it is concluded.
