HC Deb 09 May 1911 vol 25 cc1011-2
Mr. ASHLEY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that an order has been issued to the Territorial Force in Wales intimating that no pay will be granted to those members of it who are under arms at Carnarvon on the occasion of the investiture of the Prince of Wales; whether those who do attend will be required to give their services for three days; and what steps he proposes to take to enable the Territorials to take part in a national celebration without serious financial loss?

Mr. ACLAND

No such order has been issued. The arrangements for employing the Territorial Force on the occasion in question are still under consideration.

Mr. ASHLEY

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the officer commanding at Chester has informed all those under his command that no pay will be given to the Territorials?

Mr. ACLAND

The reply to a telegram sent to the officer commanding is that no order of the kind has been issued. There must be some misunderstanding.
