HC Deb 01 May 1911 vol 25 cc28-9
Mr. GRANT

asked what are the various administrative duties which in the past two years have attached to the post of secretary of the advisory council to the Victoria and Albert Museum, pending the constitution of this advisory council?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The duties in question are some of the many duties in the museum secretariat which necessarily exist in the working of a very large museum, apart from those falling to the keepers and other expert staff who work in the different departments of the museum itself—for instance, duties in con- nection with the large and varied correspondence of the museum, in connection with its numerous publications, with the work of its administrative staff (of which this officer is one); with its pecuniary transactions, and so forth.

Mr. GRANT

asked what steps have been taken towards the constitution of the promised advisory council to the Victoria and Albert Museum; and when does the right hon. Gentleman expect the council to commence work?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I have nothing to add to what I told the hon. Member on this point on 29th March last. The matter is not yet in my view ripe for settlement. So soon as things have further matured I shall inform the House.
