HC Deb 01 May 1911 vol 25 cc29-30
Mr. BOWERMAN

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether it is intended to pay the workmen employed at the Deptford Victualling Yard and the West India Dock Naval Store for the two days' holiday during Coronation week?

The FIRST LORD of the ADMIRALTY (Mr. McKenna)

The reply is in the affirmative.

Mr. JOHN WARD

Will that also apply to the workmen employed on Government work through the channel of contractors?

Mr. McKENNA

I am not aware that we have workmen employed under contract in the victualling yard.

Mr. J. WARD

Do I understand from the right hon. Gentleman's answer that the workmen employed in the different departments of the Board of Admiralty are to receive pay during the holidays of the Coronation?

Mr. McKENNA

The question addressed to me was whether the workmen employed at Deptford Victualling Yard and the West India Dock Naval Store are to receive pay for the two day's holiday, and the answer to that question is that they will.

Mr. J. WARD

Am I to understand that the people located in those two yards are to be treated differently flora the men employed in other departments?

Mr. McKENNA

No, Sir. I understand that a complete statement has already been made with regard to Government work of men employed in the London area. I am not aware that any statement has yet been made as regards the workmen outside the London area.
