HC Deb 01 May 1911 vol 25 c32
Mr. BUTCHER

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether he can state at what date in June the Census Returns for England will be ready for publication; and whether, having regard to the importance of a full appreciation of these Returns by the public, and with a view to such returns receiving adequate attention from the Press and from the general public, he will issue instructions that these returns shall not be published on or immediately before the date of the Coronation, but shall be published either a fortnight before the Coronation or as soon thereafter as the Coronation festivities are concluded?

Mr. BURNS

It is hoped that the preliminary Report of the Census may be ready by the middle of June. I cannot believe that there would be any advantage in keeping the publication back for three weeks as the hon. Member suggests.

Mr. BUTCHER

Will the right hon. Gentleman take care that it is not either the day of the Coronation or one or two days before it?

Mr. BURNS

We will try and accelerate it.
