HC Deb 22 March 1911 vol 23 cc408-9
Mr. DOUGLAS HALL

asked whether local authorities would be permitted to apply any of the money derived from the rates for the purpose of celebrating the Coronation of King George V. locally; whether it is the intention of the Local Government Board to issue any regulations governing such expenditure; and, if so, when will the regulations be published?

Mr. BURNS

I am proposing to follow the example of my predecessor in 1902 and to issue orders sanctioning expenditure by local authorities in connection with public local celebrations of His Majesty's Coronation. The orders will be issued shortly.

Mr. KELLAWAY

If this expenditure is to be sanctioned, will the right hon. Gentleman reconsider his determination not to sanction expenditure on the feeding of children?

Mr. BURNS

I see no connection between the two objects.
