HC Deb 22 March 1911 vol 23 cc396-7
Mr. NORMAN CRAIG

asked whether the representations made by the Board o£ Agriculture to the Development Commissioners in regard to the constitution of the Advisory Committee on fishery matters have produced any, and if so what, result, or, if not, what is the present position of the negotiations?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

The Commissioners have again considered the composition of the Advisory Committee, and are of opinion that it is well qualified to perform such duties of an advisory nature as will be entrusted to it.

Mr. NORMAN CRAIG

Can the right hon. Gentleman say why the Development Commissioners have disregarded the deliberate representations of the Government Department in charge of fishery matters?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

The Development Commissioners are certainly competent to form an opinion themselves as to who are the proper persons to advise them.

Mr. CHARLES BATHURST

How is it possible to bring the Departmental policy as regards the Development Fund under the supervision of this House?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

There will be an opportunity when the expenses of the Development Fund come up for discussion.
