HC Deb 21 March 1911 vol 23 c245
Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked the President of the Board of Education whether his attention had been called to Sir Victor Horsley's criticisms on the medical inspection of school children as carried out by the London County Council; whether he will inquire into the justification for these criticisms; and, if warranted, whether he can take any steps to induce the London County Council to remedy the existing state of affairs?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Runciman)

I have seen a newspaper report of a recent speech of Sir Victor Horsley on this subject. I have a great respect for this distinguished surgeon's opinion upon the subjects on which he speaks with special authority, but I am not sure that the organisation of the medical inspection of school children is one of them. The Board are cognisant of the circumstances of medical inspection in London, and have recently had important communications with the London County Council on the matter.
