HC Deb 21 March 1911 vol 23 cc244-5
Mr. HENRY TERRELL

asked whether, by reason of the action of the authorities of the Mint in prohibiting the manufacture in this country of cardboard tokens in imitation of coins, British manufacturers of games in connection with which such tokens are used are obliged to import such tokens from Germany, and by reason thereof are deprived, as to their Colonial trade in such games, of the benefit of the preferential tariff on wholly British-made goods; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take in the matter?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

I am fully aware of the position to which the hon. Member's question refers. I propose to take immediate steps to secure a more stringent administration of the law which prohibits the importation of "imitation coins" into this country.
