HC Deb 21 March 1911 vol 23 cc217-8
Mr. STANIER

asked whether the War Office know that the Field Service Pocket Books, Manual of Engineering, and for Signalling, are reported by Messrs. Wyman and Sons as out of print; and, as these are required for examinations, what do the War Office propose to do?

Mr. HALDANE

The Field Service pocket book is under revision, and it is hoped will be ready for issue in the course of the summer. The Manual of Engineering is almost ready for issue, and copies will be on sale probably in the course of next week. The Manual of Signalling will shortly go to press, and its publication will be pushed on with all possible despatch.

Mr. STANIER

May I ask if the officers who have suffered in consequence of not being able to get these books will be taken into account when they come up for examination?

Viscount CASTLEREAGH

Are the old manuals of any use now for examination purposes?

Mr. HALDANE

I suppose they are. There is no other manual until we have a new one.

Viscount HELMSLEY

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider the whole question of re-issuing manuals which has come up every year, but nothing has been done hitherto.

Mr. HALDANE

It has been very much considered for two years.
