HC Deb 21 March 1911 vol 23 cc216-7
Dr. ADDISON

asked the Secretary of State for War what was the cost of the present Army rifle; how many royalties there were attaching to its various parts; and whether any, and, if so, how many of these royalties were for the benefit of past or present employés at Enfield or other Government factories?

The SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Haldane)

The cost of the short rifle is £3 12s. 6d., and of the charger-loading rifle £3 5s. As regards the former, royalty is charged for each rifle sold to private customers, and if parts are sold for each patent involved, and for the charger five patents are involved. As regards the latter full royalty is charged on each rifle sold, whether the rifle is wholly or partly converted two patents are involved. The royalties are retained by the War Department.
