HC Deb 16 March 1911 vol 22 c2424
Mr. NORMAN CRAIG

asked the Lord Advocate what, according to the most recent returns available, are the numbers of the Scottish population engaged in trawling and line-fishing respectively; and what is the number and aggregate tonnage of Scottish trawling vessels?

The LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. Ure)

The numbers of the Scottish population (engaged in actual fishing operations) in trawling and line-fishing were in 1910 estimated respectively at 2,875 and 20,350. The latter number includes 3,700 on steam vessels. Of the total number engaged in line-fishing about 4,000 were so engaged all the year round. The number of Scottish steam trawlers in 1910 was 299, of an aggregate tonnage of 15,102 tons.
