HC Deb 16 March 1911 vol 22 cc2433-4
Mr. THOMAS F. SMYTH

asked if the Estates Commissioners will have the representatives of the late Francis Donlan reinstated in the farm of land at Errew, Carrigallen, county Leitrim, on the Latouche, estate, from which they were evicted about twenty-eight years ago, or provided with a farm elsewhere, as they are in rather poor circumstances, and considering that their claims as evicted tenants have been recognised by the Estates Commissioners for some years past?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners received an application from the late Francis Donlan on the Latouche estate, formerly occupied by him, and now in the occupation of another tenant, and decided to take no action in the matter. They will, however, consider whether Donlan's representatives could be provided with a parcel of land elsewhere.

Mr. WILLIAM O'BRIEN

asked the Chief Secretary whether he will invite the attention of the Estates Commissioners to the claim of Denis Healy, who was evicted under peculiarly distressing circumstances in 1896 on the Cronin-Coltsman estate, at Barraduff, county Kerry; what has been the cost to the country of the special police station established for the purpose of watching the farm since the eviction; and if any steps will be taken to bring this long-standing dispute to a friendly conclusion?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners have considered and decided to take no action in reference to the applica- tion from Denis Healy for reinstatement in a holding formerly occupied by him on the estate referred to. On the sate of this estate under the Land Purchase Acts the holding in question was purchased by Denis Healy's brother, who was the tenant in occupation, and who bequeathed it to his brother-in-law who is now the owner. The neighbouring district is policed from the station referred to, and the duty of the police is not confined to the protection of the farm.
