HC Deb 16 March 1911 vol 22 cc2449-50
Mr. BOLAND

asked the President of the Board of Trade, whether he proposes to make representations to Foreign Governments with a view to preventing, the importation into those countries of goods bearing a false indication of British or Irish origin; and, if so, whether, in view of the fact that several foreign countries now keep separate records of Irish trade, he will invite evidence from Ireland to show to what extent the falsification of goods of Irish origin has been detrimental to the trade between Ireland and those countries, and will make representations accordingly?

Mr. BUXTON

The British delegates will be instructed to raise the whole question of false indications of origin at the forthcoming Industrial Property Conference at Washington, with a view, if possible, to secure more effective protection against fraudulent practices. Any information which my hon. Friend may be in a position to supply with regard to the application of false indications of Irish origin will receive my careful consideration.
