HC Deb 15 March 1911 vol 22 c2220
Mr. BOYTON

asked how many Singhalese and Tamil officers or non-commissioned officers of the Ceylon Volunteer Force will accompany the contingent to be sent to this country for the Coronation?

Mr. HARCOURT

No Singhalese or Tamil officers or non-commissioned officers of the Ceylon Volunteer Force will be included in the contingent. With the exception of a sergeant of the Ceylon Light Infantry, who is coining from the Colony, the contingent will be composed of members of the force who will be in England on leave.

Mr. PEEL

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that these Singhalese and Tamil officers and non-commissioned officers form a very large proportion of the officers and non-commissioned officers of the Ceylon Volunteer Force, and will he kindly consider whether he will allow representatives of these races to come over for the Coronation?

Mr. HARCOURT

So far as the arrangements for the Coronation are in my hands I shall be glad to consider any representations made to me.
