HC Deb 14 March 1911 vol 22 c2052
Sir ALFRED GELDER

asked in connection with the investigation which the Local Government Board are making re the suggested standardisation of flour and bread, will he state whether he intends to make a pronouncement upon the comparative food values of the suggested 80 per cent. flour and ordinary commercial white flour; and whether any physiological determination has been arrived at in consultation with any authority as to the possibility of human beings digesting and assimilating such parts of the wheat berry as has hitherto been regarded by millers as food only suitable for animals?

Mr. BURNS

The subjects referred to in the question are receiving consideration in connection with a report, which my officers are preparing, on nutritive values of flour and bread.

Mr. H. W. FORSTER

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether the investigation referred to is based on any physiological or scientific research?

Mr. BURNS

I should advise the hon. Gentleman to wait until he sees the report, which will be out in a few days.
