HC Deb 14 March 1911 vol 22 cc2039-40
Mr. STAVELEY-HILL

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he had any information as to the intention of the Russian Government to introduce a Bill enacting a 12-mile zone in respect of the East Siberian fisheries; and whether, in view of the effect of such a measure on Canadian interests in respect of the cod fisheries in those waters, he proposed to take any action in the matter?

Sir E. GREY

I am not in a position to give information as to the intentions of the Russian Government, but I am inquiring as to the interests of Canadian fishermen, and will communicate with the Russian Government.

Mr. CATHCART WASON

Will not the right hon. Gentleman consider the propriety of bringing the whole question of fishing before the Hague Tribunal?

Sir E. GREY

I cannot make any further statement at this moment.
