HC Deb 13 March 1911 vol 22 c1870
Colonel YATE

asked whether the Postmaster-General can state the proportion of vacancies annually given to ex-soldiers of the Regular Army, as compared with the number given to civilians; and whether he can hold out any hope of an increase of that proportion?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

The number of vacancies annually given to ex-soldiers or ex-sailors is equal to half those occurring on the classes of postman and porter, the other half being given to civilians. I can hold out no expectation of any increase in the number of posts reserved for soldiers or sailors.
