Sir GILBERT PARKERasked to what countries the concessions given by Canada to the United States under the proposed reciprocity agreement would have to be extended under Canada's most-favoured-nation obligations; and to what extent would the competition of Great Britain be increased in the Canadian market by such extensions?
§ Sir E. GREYThe countries in question are: the Argentine Republic, Austria-Hungary, Bolivia, Colombia, Denmark, Japan, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Venezuela, and, to a limited extent, France. The hon. Member can form his opinion, but I would remind him that the Canadian legislation is not completed yet.
§ Mr. REMNANTasked what representations His Majesty's Government are making to the Government of the United States for a reduction of the United States duties upon British products upon which Canada would receive reductions under the proposed reciprocity agreement?
§ Sir E. GREYAs the duties in question have not yet been reduced, it would be premature to decide whether any representations should be made.
§ Mr. JAMES HOPEasked on what day cabled particulars of the provisions of the proposed reciprocity agreement between Canada and the United States were received by His Majesty's Government?
Mr. HARCOURTParticulars of the agreement were received on 27th January, as will be seen by reference to Cd. 5512.
§ Mr. HOPECan the right hon. Gentleman say when these particulars were made public in this country?
Mr. HARCOURTI cannot say. I sent them the same day to the Board of Trade Publication Department immediately on the receipt of them.
