§ Mr. MITCHELL-THOMSONasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that robberies have recently taken place on the Bushire-Isbahan road, and that further acts of brigandage are feared; and whether representations will be made to the Government of Persia with a view to securing the protection of the road?
§ Sir E. GREYThe incidents referred to have been reported by His Majesty's Minister at Teheran, who has already made representations to the Persian Government on the subject.
§ Mr. MITCHELL-THOMSONIs the right hon. Baronet aware that even within the last few days there has been a repetition of these incidents? Can he not take some further steps to ensure that effective measures shall be taken?
§ Sir E. GREYIt is not British territory. We have made representations to the Persian Government. I fully admit that the state of things is not satisfactory, but we can only apply to the Persian Government on whom responsibility rests.
