§ Mr. MORRELLasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he could yet say whether he would lay upon the Table of the House the Report issued by the Egyptian Commission last September on the question of cotton growing in Egypt; and whether he would give the House any further information as to any action which the Government were now taking in the matter either in Egypt or the Soudan?
§ Sir E. GREYThe report is an already published Egyptian document, with elaborate diagrams, which it would be very expensive to reproduce. I will send a copy to the Library of the House. The recommendations contained in it are being considered by the proper authorities. As regards the Soudan, I am informed that a satisfactory agreement has been con- 1007 cluded between the Soudan Government and a syndicate formed for the development of the Gezira as a cotton field. The latest information will be available when Sir Eldon Gorst's next Report is published.
§ Mr. MORRELLWill the right hon. Baronet be in a position to make any statement on the subject in the course of his statement to-morrow?
§ Sir E. GREYI cannot add to what I have already said. The report in the natural course of events will be published, I think, in April or May at latest, and we shall then have more complete information than is in my possession at present.
