HC Deb 02 March 1911 vol 22 cc539-40
Mr. O'SHAUGHNESSY

asked the Chief Secretary if he can say whether the Estates Commissioners are taking any steps to acquire the untenanted lands of Ballynorth, near Askeaton, in the county of Limerick, on the O'Grady estate; and, if so, whether there is any likelihood of a sale being effected in the near future?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners had a preliminary inspection made and communicated their estimate of price to the representatives of Dudley O'Grady. The Commissioners understand that their interest in the lands is not such as would enable them to sell under the Land Purchase Acts.

Mr. O'SHAUGHNESSY

asked the Chief Secretary if he can say whether the Estates Commissioners have yet purchased the untenanted lands at Mount Henry, Coolcapper, in the county of Limerick; and, if not, what is the cause of the delay, having regard to the fact that the landlady, Miss O'Grady, Delmege, has long since signified her willingness to sell the lands?

Mr. BIRRELL

I have nothing to add to the reply which I gave on the 19th April last to the question on this subject addressed to me by the hon. Member.

Mr. O'SHAUGHNESSY

asked the Chief Secretary if he can say what steps the Estates Commissioners have taken to acquire the untenanted lands at Craggs, Borrigone, in the county of Limerick, on the Cooper estate; and whether he is aware that the landlord is willing to sell these lands to them, and that a great number of small holders in the district have petitioned the Commisioners to acquire these lands for them?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners understand that the owner of the estate referred to is not prepared to sell at their estimated price. Formal proceedings for sale of the lands to the Commissioners have not yet been instituted by him.
