HC Deb 02 March 1911 vol 22 cc547-8
Mr. O'DONNELL

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he will state the amounts voted by Parliament to each of the three countries, England, Scotland, and Wales, for secondary education and for higher grade primary schools, respectively, in the year ended March, 1910; and what is the amount voted to Ireland for the same purposes in the same period?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Hobhouse)

I beg to refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member for Mid-Armagh on Monday, the 13th ult.

Mr. O'DONNELL

Is it not a fact that in England about £800,000 is voted for secondary and higher grade schools, while in Ireland not a penny is voted?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

No; I cannot admit the comparison of figures in any way.
