HC Deb 29 June 1911 vol 27 cc572-3
Lord BALCARRES

Can the Chancellor of the Exchequer inform us what is the business for next week?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

The Patronage Secretary has informed the Prime Minister that a very strong wish has been expressed on behalf of hon. Members opposite by the Chief Opposition Whip—to whom I offer cordial congratulations—that more time should be given to the consideration of the Naval Prize Bill. We are glad to fall in with this suggestion, and will ask the House to bring the Debate to a conclusion on Monday evening.

In that case, the Naval Construction Vote will be taken in Committee of Supply on Tuesday.

On Wednesday we shall submit a Motion allocating time to the remaining stages of the National Insurance Bill, and the Committee stage of the Bill will be taken and continued on Thursday and Friday.

Lord BALCARRES

Friday belongs to private Members.

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Master of Elibank)

I think the Noble Lord is mistaken. Tomorrow is the last day.

Mr. BOOTH

Might we have some indication of what this Resolution to be submitted on Wednesday with regard to the allocation of time for the National Insurance Bill will mean? What is the time to be allowed to the Committee stage?

Mr. KING

May I suggest that the terms of the Resolution might be placed upon the Order Paper?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

Certainly we shall follow the usual course, and we shall give ample notice of the Resolution itself.

Mr. BOOTH

I asked if an indication could be given of the gross amount of time, not of the particulars of the allocation. I am willing to wait for that.

Mr. SPEAKER

The House will have an opportunity of debating that.

Mr. JAMES HOPE

Is it not a fact that the second and third Friday after Whitsuntide on which the House sits are reserved for private Members' Bills?

Mr. SPEAKER

The third and fourth Friday after Whitsuntide.

Ordered, "That the Proceedings on the Adjourned Debate on the Second Reading of the Naval Prize Bill have precedence this day of the Business of Supply."—[The Prime Minister.]
