§ Mr. NEWMANasked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that resolutions have recently been passed by the Toxteth Park and Holborn Board of Guardians to the effect that, owing to the exacting nature of their duties, it was desirable that each guardian should be paid a salary of not less than £150 per annum; whether he has received similar resolutions from any other boards of guardians; and will he say whether the payment of salaries for those holding the office of guardian could be made a charge on rates by the sanction of the Local Government Board?
§ Mr. BURNSI have received a resolution from the Toxteth Park Board of Guardians and from one or two other boards in favour of the payment of guardians for their services. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.
