§ Sir REGINALD POLE-CAREWasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that, by official figures, out of twenty-seven cavalry regiments, exclusive of the 7th Hussars, eighteen have less foreign service than that regiment, one of which has never yet had a tour of foreign service in time of peace; that out of the remainder, only five, again by official figures, have more than the 7th; that not a single hussar regiment is included amongst that five, and that none of them are detailed for early foreign service; that if the 7th Hussars are sent to India this autumn they will by the end of their tour of duty in that country have com- 1444 pleted thirty years' foreign service to nine at home; that there are eleven other hussar regiments besides the 7th; and whether, under the circumstances, he still maintains that to rectify the roster must necessarily be unjust to other regiments?
§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Colonel Seely)I am afraid that some of the figures given by the hon. and gallant Member are not correct. But however this may be, none of his calculations affect the view which the authorities after very full consideration have taken, of the injustice which a re-arrangement of the roster would cause.
