HC Deb 17 July 1911 vol 28 cc674-5
Sir CLEMENT KINLOCH-COOKE

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether it is the intention of the Government to transfer any, and, if so, which, of the powers now being administered under the Unemployed Workmen Act, 1905, to the Labour Exchanges Act; and, in view of the opinion expressed at the recent Imperial Conference, what provision the Government propose to make with regard to carrying on the special powers regarding emigration contained in the Unemployed Workmen Act, 1905?

The PRESIDENT of the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. Burns)

The Government are proposing to continue the Unemployed Workmen Act, 1905, unamended, for another year. In these circumstances, the second part of the question does not seem to arise.

Sir CLEMENT KINLOCH-COOKE

asked when the Unemployed Workmen Act, 1905, expires; and whether it is the intention of the Government to renew that Act?

Mr. BURNS

Unless continued, the Act will expire on the 31st December next. As has already been stated by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister, it is the intention of the Government to include the Act in the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill of this Session.
