HC Deb 17 July 1911 vol 28 c692
Mr. BARNES

asked the Prime Minister if his attention has been directed to the dislocation of trade and losses to those directly concerned, particularly in the shipping ports of the country, which have arisen from the attitude towards labour adopted by the Shipping Federation, and to the difficulties that may arise there from on the part of transport workers; if he has seen the suggestions put forward by the president of the Master Cotton. Spinners Association in a letter addressed to the Lord Mayor of Manchester on the 11th instant; arid whether, in view of this danger to the trade of the country, he proposes to take any action in the matter?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Asquith)

My attention has been called to the letter to which my hon. Friend has referred. I can assure him that any feasible and properly supported plan which might tend to prevent or shorten industrial warfare would receive the earnest attention of the Government.
