HC Deb 17 July 1911 vol 28 cc692-3
Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

asked (1) whether the Prime Minister can explain the delay in forwarding the applications for grants from the Development Fund on behalf of the ports of St. Andrew's, Anstruther, Pittenweem, and St. Monan's to the Commissioners; whether the claims of the ports have been reported upon; if, so, whey have they been delayed; and (2) whether he will use his influence to expedite the consideration of the application for grants under the Development Fund for the ports of St. Andrew's, Anstruther, Pittenweem, and St. Monan's, which have been delayed for nine months?

The PRIME MINISTER

I understand that the Fishery Board for Scotland made local inquiry in the latter part of May into the application in question, and the matter is at present the subject of communications between the Secretary for Scotland and the Fishery Board with regard to certain points on which further information is required. All the applications involve questions of considerable magnitude from the financial, industrial, and engineering standpoints. The hon. and gallant Member may be assured that no avoidable delay will occur.

Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

Will the right hon. Gentleman endeavour to secure that these applications shall be considered before the whole of the money is spent?

The PRIME MINISTER

I am just as much interested as the hon. and gallant Gentleman.
