HC Deb 12 July 1911 vol 28 cc368-9
Mr. KING

asked whether the right hon. Gentleman has received resolutions passed at a conference held on 27th June in Liverpool, when representatives of local education authorities protested against having to deal with any Government. Department except the Board of Education in administering the Education (Choice of Employment) Act and, if so, what answer has been given?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

A copy of the Resolutions reached me yesterday, and I have not yet been able to give them adequate consideration. No reply has yet been sent.

Mr. KING

asked whether the right hon. Gentleman will state what statutory sanction exists for the conditions laid down in the joint memorandum, dated 3rd January, 1911, signed by the Presidents of the Board of Trade and the Board of Education, issued in connection with the Education (Choice of Employment) Act; and whether the memorandum has evoked any protests from local authorities?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I must ask my Friend to give me some further notice of this question, which affects another Depart- ment besides my own. Perhaps he will kindly postpone the question till tomorrow, at any rate.

Mr. KING

I beg to give notice that I shall draw attention to this matter at the earliest possible opportunity, and I will repeat the question next week.
