HC Deb 10 July 1911 vol 28 cc25-6
Mr. PERKINS

asked whether the Royal Victoria Hospital at Netley is understaffed; whether recent orders limit furloughs granted to men of the Royal Army Medical Corps to fourteen days, while men of other regiments going on leave to Ireland and Scotland are given six weeks, and are sure of at least a month's furlough annually; and whether leave can only be obtained when the applicant is successful in finding another man to do his duty?

Colonel SEELY

Netley Hospital staff is somewhat under establishment owing to the Royal Army Medical Corps at home as a whole being short of establishment. Consequently furloughs can only be sparingly granted, and those are being generally limited this summer to fourteen days. The furlough season at Netley, however, is not, as with other troops, confined to the winter months, and the furloughs are given when the men can best be spared. It is not the case that leave can only be obtained when the applicant is successful in finding another man to do his duty.
