HC Deb 03 July 1911 vol 27 c786
Mr. CRUMLEY

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture whether he is aware that cargoes of Danish and Australian frozen pigs are landed at Leith and made into bacon and sold throughout England and Scotland as Ayrshire bacon, to the detriment of Irish and English curers; and will the Government take steps to pass the Meat Marking Bill with a view to doing away with false trade marks?

Sir E. STRACHEY

No, Sir; but I shall be glad to investigate any specific case brought to my notice. The latter part of the question should be addressed to the Prime Minister.

Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

Can the hon. Baronet say how the selling of foreign bacon as Ayrshire bacon should be detrimental to English and Irish curers? Is the grievance not with the Ayrshire curers?

Sir E. STRACHEY

Of course that is a matter of opinion.
