§ Mr. JOYCEasked the Chief Secretary whether his attention had been called to the fact that the county borough council of Limerick had applied for a loan of £5,135 in order to carry out a first scheme of housing under The Housing of the Working Classes (Ireland) Act, 1909; whether the plans in connection with this scheme had been forwarded to the Irish Local Government Board; was he aware that the ground on which it was proposed to build in this case was almost wholly owned by the borough council; and if and when the scheme was approved by the Local Government Board, would he see that there would be no unnecessary delay in granting the loan, so that work on this much-needed scheme of housing would be commenced as soon as possible?
§ Mr. BIRRELLThe facts are as stated in the first three paragraphs of the question. If, and when, the scheme is approved by the Local Government Board, the question of granting a loan from public funds will rest with the Treasury.
§ Mr. JOYCEAs he knows a good deal about this case, will the right hon. Gentleman assist the Corporation to press its claim on the Treasury?
§ Mr. BIRRELLSubject to my general relations with the Treasury, I will do my best.
