HC Deb 21 February 1911 vol 21 c1737
Mr. LANSBURY

asked how many men certified as in health and able-bodied between the ages of eighteen and forty, have been admitted to the Belmont Workhouse since it was opened; and how many of these men have been charged with and convicted for offences committed while inmates of the workhouse?

Mr. BURNS

Of the total number of men who have passed through Belmont Workhouse since its opening, 848 were between the ages of eighteen and forty and certified as in health and able-bodied. Of these 848 men, the number charged and convicted for offences while inmates of the workhouse is 112, but this includes fifty-two men who were convicted in connection with the disturbance on 14th December.
