HC Deb 20 February 1911 vol 21 cc1535-6
Viscount CASTLEREAGH

asked the Home Secretary whether the police have succeeded in tracing David Davies?

Mr. CHURCHILL

The answer is in the negative.

Viscount CASTLEREAGH

May I ask whether adequate steps have been taken to discover whether any misfortune may have befallen this man?

Mr. CHURCHILL

Apart from the inquiries of the local police I sent a special detective from Scotland Yard with a Welsh-speaking detective, to make inquiries with no result apart from the fact that in certain quarters of the district a strong suspicion is entertained that the man has been enticed away for some political purposes.

Viscount CASTLEREAGH

Will the right hon. Gentleman take steps to bring the enticer, whoever he may be, to justice?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I can assure the Noble Lord that I will certainly not fail in that respect, whoever the party may be.

Mr. WILLIAM REDMOND

Arising out of the disappearance of this man may I ask whether he is aware that there is really no mystery at all, and that this man has been engaged to lecture for Tariff Reform?
