HC Deb 15 February 1911 vol 21 cc1047-8
Mr. BOOTH

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can give an assurance that his proposals for State insurance of unemployment will not interfere with any of the existing agencies which give death or accident benefits; and whether, in case he should see fit to submit an outline of his scheme to representatives or employers, federations, or to trade union delegates, he will see his way to consult the friendly orders, collecting societies, and industrial assurance companies who have had special experience of the conditions of life of the classes he proposes to benefit?

Mr. BUXTON

I cannot see how the proposals of the Government for unemployment insurance can affect the existing agencies referred to by my hon. Friend, but, if they think otherwise, I shall, of course, be glad to consider any views which they may wish to lay before me.

Mr. BOOTH

Will the right hon. Gentleman also receive the views of the employés as well as those of the principals?

Mr. BUXTON

I will be very glad to receive any representations on the matter.
