HC Deb 15 February 1911 vol 21 cc1027-8
Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY (for Lord Charles Beresford)

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he could now inform the House as to the result of his further inquiries at Lloyds in regard to the insurance of vessels carrying guns and powder on board?

Mr. McKENNA

I am much indebted to the noble Lord for giving me an opportunity of correcting a statement made by me during a Debate last July. Relying upon information which came from what I believed to be the highest authority, I stated that the secreting on board a ship of guns and ammunition would invalidate its insurance policy. As the result of further careful inquiries made during the recess, I am informed that there is no such rule, and that my original informant must have misunderstood the statements made to him.
