§ Mr. CHURCHILLThe officer who was for the longest time on duty on the occasion referred to was the superintendent, 697 who was on duty for less than twenty hours. Arrangements were made to relieve the police employed there at regular intervals, but a few men attached to the Leman Street Section House who were amongst the crowds got overlooked in the turmoil. These men may have been engaged for perhaps twelve or thirteen hours. Any police officer could, on being relieved, get adequate refreshment at the Leman Street Section House, which is close by.
